Sunbask: three ways to put a cat at the window

We sell one thing: a comfortable lookout that fits the window you already have.

Sunbask started from something plain we kept seeing in people's homes: most cat hammocks are sold without the one measurement that decides whether they fit. You find out after it arrives that the pane is too narrow, the sill too shallow, or that the radiator has no gap for the hooks.

So we came at it from the other end: three mounts, one per configuration, and the total footprint published on the page rather than discovered on unboxing.

What we measure before we sell

Every model goes through the same check: total footprint measured, compatibility verified, stock confirmed, lead time realistic. 115 published ratings, averaging 4.9 out of 5.

On what they will hold, we go by what buyers report: two cats together on the suction model, a 15 lb (7 kg) cat on the wooden frame.

Where our numbers come from

Our measurements come from manufacturer figures cross-checked against the technical drawings. The 19.9 in (50.5 cm) glass width was confirmed by a buyer before we published it.

Why we only sell three models

There are dozens of cat beds out there and we could have listed them all. We sell three, because three is the number of genuinely different situations you meet in a home.

Either the window has a large area of glass and no usable sill — sliding doors and modern frames — and the mount goes on the glass itself, by suction. Or it has a sill that projects, and it would be absurd to stick anything to the pane when you can simply clamp the ledge: that is the wooden frame model. Or the useful spot is the radiator under the window, and the frame hooks over the top.

Adding a fourth model would just be a variant of one of the three. We would rather publish the measurements that let you choose between them — more useful than a longer list.

What we measure, and what we report

Our figures come from two sources, and we keep the two apart on every page.

The measurements are taken, not copied: 17.7 × 11.8 in (45 × 30 cm) for the suction seat, 18.1 × 11.8 × 9.8 in (46 × 30 × 25 cm) for the radiator model, and 15 × 16.9 × 8.3 in (38 × 43 × 21 cm) for the wooden frame. We also record the ones the spec sheets leave out — the 19.9 in (50.5 cm) of smooth glass the suction model needs, a constraint absent from every listing on the market and the one that actually decides the purchase.

The load figures are reported, not tested, and we give them as what buyers describe: two cats settled together on the suction model, so somewhere around 20 lb (10 kg), and a 15 lb (7 kg) cat on the wooden frame. These are observed uses, and we present them as such rather than as a tested rating.

That is where our job stops: select, verify, ship, and take back within 30 days whatever does not suit.

How we pick a product

Three filters, in order. The product has to answer a specific household situation first — a type of window, a type of radiator — rather than a general wish for somewhere to sleep. It then has to come from a manufacturer willing to give its real measurements, even if we re-measure them ourselves. And it has to have enough sales history for the reviews to mean something.

A product that clears all three filters joins the range with its limits documented. That is why every product page also says when the model is the wrong choice.

Nous joindre

A question about a measurement, a doubt about whether your window or radiator will take one: write to us at [email protected]. We answer within one business day, and an answer along the lines of “this model will not work in your home” costs us less than a return does.

Where we sit in the chain

Sunbask is an independent online shop, published by Animouf LLC. We select products from manufacturers, measure them, document them, and sell them direct — with no commercial middleman between the manufacturer and you.

Our value is in the checking: recording the 19.9 in (50.5 cm) of smooth glass the spec sheets pass over in silence, pointing out that a solid cast iron radiator will not take hooks, and taking the product back for 30 days if either point got past you.
